HDB launches 2-room flats for singles

The housing board today launched 519 two-room flats, of which up to 30 percent are reserved for singles who are also first-time buyers. Most of the Build-to-Order (BTO) flats will be developed in Sengkang and Yishun.
Singles wanting to buy a unit should be at least 35 years old and have a monthly income not exceeding S$5,000.
Moreover, eligible singles looking to purchase BTO flats are now covered by the Special CPF Housing Grant (SHG) and the Additional CPF Housing Grant (AHG), said HDB.
An AHG of up to S$20,000 will be available to singles earning not more than S$2,500 per month and who applied under the Single Singapore Citizen Scheme (SSC), while those earning not more than S$1,125 will get an additional SHG of up to S$10,000.
On the other hand, singles applying under the Joint Singles Scheme (JSS) and have a combined monthly income of up to S$5,000 will receive an AHG of up to S$40,000, while those who earn up to S$2,250 can get an additional SHG of up to S$20,000.
Meanwhile, singles aged 35 and above can also purchase resale units of any size and in any estate. Just like married couples, eligible singles can obtain CPF Housing Grants amounting to S$30,000, if they apply under the JSS. However, they will only get S$15,000 if they applied under the SSC.

HDB's latest BTO launch includes a wide range of flats, from studio apartments to five-roomers. In total, 3,861 flats are up for sale under the July 2013 BTO exercise.
